Jind, July 25: Vikas Sharma, the son of BJP leader and former block president Shiv Kumar Sharma, was brutally stabbed to death by a group of assailants on Rampura road in Safidon town, Jind district, late Thursday night.
According to police, Vikas, who owned a private hospital, was picked up from the hospital by Anil Sharma — known to his father — and another person, Happy. They were on their way to Assandh when, around 10 pm, their car was intercepted by two vehicles near Safidon.
“When Vikas asked the drivers to move their vehicles, 7-8 armed men attacked him with knives,” said a police official. Vikas, who was married 18 months ago and leaves behind a five-month-old daughter, succumbed to his injuries.
On the basis of a complaint by Shiv Kumar Sharma, the police have registered a murder case and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify and arrest the attackers.
The killing has sent shockwaves through Safidon. BJP MLA Ramkumar Gautam visited the hospital to meet the grieving family. “The culprits will be brought to justice. This is a heinous crime,” he said.
Police have intensified the search for the accused and are investigating possible motives behind the attack.
