NEW DELHI, Dec 11— Lawmakers witnessed a brief uproar in the Lok Sabha on Thursday as BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused a TMC member of using an e-cigarette in the House.
During Question Hour, Thakur asked Speaker Om Birla whether e-cigarettes were allowed in Parliament. “It has been noticed that a member has been constantly smoking e-cigarettes for the past several days,” he said after receiving a negative response from the Speaker.
Several BJP MPs demanded immediate disciplinary action, but Birla reminded members to maintain decorum. “The dignity of the House must be upheld. I will act if a written complaint is submitted,” he said.
The use of e-cigarettes in India has been prohibited for several years, and their alleged use in the Parliament has raised questions about enforcement of the ban.
