SIRSA, May 10— A powerful explosion shook Sirsa city shortly after midnight on Friday, sparking fear and confusion among residents. The blast, which occurred around 12:15 a.m., was followed by visible activity from Indian Air Force units and local police, raising security alarms across the region.
In the hours that followed, authorities discovered fragments of a damaged aerial object at two separate locations—Rania Chungi Khajakhera and Firozabad Chaksaheba—about 16 kilometers apart.
The debris, described as broken metallic parts, is now in the custody of Air Force teams, who are investigating the origin and nature of the object.
A second loud blast was reported in Sirsa around 8 a.m. Saturday, deepening public unease.
One of the most dramatic moments came in the Indira Colony area, where locals claimed to have seen a red, drone-like object descending before the initial explosion.
“We were on the rooftop when we saw a red light falling from the sky. Moments later, there was a massive blast. Everyone was terrified,” said Ravinder, a resident.
While emergency responders, including ambulances and Air Force personnel, quickly reached the site, district officials later said no conclusive evidence was found there.
However, local CCTV footage and videos shared on social media are now under review.
The incident has prompted authorities to issue a high alert in Sirsa and neighboring districts, including Hisar.
Precautionary measures include the arrangement of burn wards in three Hisar hospitals and the enforcement of a blackout across parts of Sirsa overnight.
To strengthen emergency coordination, two 24/7 control rooms have been set up by the district administration to manage information flow and field response.
Officials have urged residents not to spread rumors and to rely only on verified updates.
“Public cooperation is essential. We are working closely with security forces to monitor the situation,” said Sub-Divisional Magistrate Arpit Sangal.
In Dabwali, SDM Sangal held a meeting with municipal ward members, directing them to turn off public and street lighting at night as a precautionary measure and help raise awareness among locals. Ward councillors have assured full support.
As investigations continue, authorities remain on alert, calling for calm and vigilance among residents. Further details are expected pending the outcome of the Air Force’s inquiry into the recovered debris.
