Patiala, April 1— A loud explosion-like sound was reported at the Badshahpur police post in Patiala district early Tuesday, sparking panic amid speculation of a grenade attack.

Patiala SSP Nanak Singh, who visited the site, said, “Around 2 a.m., a blast-like sound was heard, but no trace of explosives has been found. A thorough investigation is underway.”

Police confirmed that windowpanes of a cooperative society office adjacent to the post developed cracks due to the intensity of the sound. “We woke up to a loud explosion. Everyone was scared,” said local resident Rishipal Gupta.

This marks the first such incident in Patiala following a series of attacks on police establishments in border districts since November 2024.

Punjab Police remain on high alert after ten blasts outside police installations between November 2024 and February 2025, including the latest one at a non-operational police chowki near the Fatehgarh Churian bypass in Amritsar on February 3.

The incident follows the killing of Gursidak Singh, alias Sidak, who was wanted for the grenade attack on Amritsar’s Thakur Dwara temple. He was shot dead in a police encounter near Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport, while another suspect, Vishal, managed to escape.

Police suspect Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of orchestrating these attacks. Previous incidents include the placement of an IED at Ajnala police station on November 23, a grenade attack on Asron police post on December 2, and similar strikes at Islamabad police station and Bakshiwala police post in December, with several arrests and encounters reported.
