New Delhi, Sept. 15 — Delhi Police on Monday arrested Gaganpreet, the woman allegedly driving the BMW that fatally hit a motorcycle, killing senior Union Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh and critically injuring his wife Sandeep Kaur.
Police said Gaganpreet, who suffered minor injuries in the collision, was admitted to Nulife Hospital in Mukharjee Nagar and taken into custody after being discharged. An FIR has been registered under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125B (endangering human life), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 238 (concealing evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Eyewitnesses said the BMW struck the couple’s motorcycle after first colliding with the central verge and losing control near Metro Pillar 67 on the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Cantt stretch, leading to a major traffic jam.
Singh, a deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, was a resident of Hari Nagar. His wife, who remains hospitalised, was with him on the motorcycle when the accident occurred.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the damaged vehicles and accident site, while further investigation is under way.
