Chandigarh, October 17 — Four days after a Sohana resident went missing, police on Thursday recovered his body from a drain pipe behind the Hockey Stadium in Sector 42 and arrested two of his friends in connection with the case.
The victim, identified as Gurvinder Singh, was an employee of CITCO. Police said the accused — Amit and Shubham, both residents of Attawa — were with Gurvinder on the night he died. “During questioning, the accused revealed that all three had consumed drugs together. When Gurvinder’s condition worsened and they thought he had died, they dumped his body into a drain pipe and covered it with stones to conceal it,” a police officer said.
According to investigators, the drugs were allegedly procured from Sector 25. Gurvinder had last contacted his family on October 12, informing them he would return home late. Instead, he met Amit and Shubham and accompanied them to Sector 42, where the three reportedly took drugs.
The disappearance took a grim turn when Gurvinder’s family, unable to trace him for four days, tracked the GPS location of his electric scooter to Sector 42. Police were alerted, and a search led to the discovery of his body hidden inside the drain pipe.
Both suspects were produced before a district court on Thursday. While Shubham was remanded to judicial custody, Amit was sent to police custody for further interrogation. Investigators are now tracing the source of the drugs.
Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received. Gurvinder is survived by his wife and a five-year-old son whose birthday he was supposed to celebrate on October 19. “It’s a tragic case. The investigation will determine if the death was purely accidental or if other factors were involved,” an officer noted.
