New Delhi, Jan 18: A handwritten note found in a cabin restroom forced an IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Bagdogra to make an unscheduled landing at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Sunday morning. The aircraft, carrying 222 passengers and seven crew members, was diverted after a tissue paper with the words “Plane mein bomb” was discovered during the journey.
Air Traffic Control received the distress alert at approximately 8:46 am, prompting immediate security protocols. The pilots steered the Airbus toward Lucknow, touching down safely at 9:17 am. Airport authorities immediately directed the plane to a designated isolation bay located far from the main terminal to ensure the safety of other operations.
Local law enforcement confirmed that every person on board, including eight infants, was evacuated without injury. Specialized units, including the bomb disposal squad and various federal security agencies, were called to the scene to conduct a comprehensive sweep of the fuselage and passenger luggage.
“All passengers and crew were safely evacuated,” a Lucknow official noted while describing the transition from the air to the ground. The police commissionerate released a statement explaining that the threat originated from a scribbled message found during preliminary checks of the aircraft interior.
While the search continued throughout the morning, the Lucknow police commissionerate stated that the law and order situation remained under control. Investigators are currently working to identify the individual responsible for the note as part of their ongoing legal action.
