Ludhiana, 14 October, 2024: Two burglars broke into a jewellery shop on Tajpur Road in the early hours of Sunday, stealing silver and artificial jewellery worth ₹25,000.
The thieves, however, left behind a crucial clue—their mobile phone, which police are now using to trace them.
According to reports, Manish Kumar, the owner of Shri Bala Ji Jewellers, was alerted about the burglary around 4 a.m. by his neighbors.
He rushed to his shop and found the shutter broken and the store ransacked.
“The burglars smashed the glass counters to steal the silver and artificial jewellery. Luckily, I had taken the gold jewellery home with me,” Kumar said.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, Kumar saw that the two burglars entered the shop at around 2:30 a.m. and spent about 30 minutes inside, using their mobile phone torches to locate the items.
While fleeing, they inadvertently left their phone behind, he added.
The Division Number 7 police were informed and quickly arrived at the scene to begin their investigation.
Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh, the station house officer, confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against two unidentified suspects.
“We are working on tracing the accused using the mobile phone they left at the scene and expect to make arrests soon,” Singh said.
The police have confiscated the mobile device and are confident it will lead to a swift resolution of the case.
