Buttler, Bethell & Jacks Face IPL vs National Duty Clash

by chahat sikri

May 14, IPL 2025: Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks have been selected in the England team for the home ODI series against the West Indies, due to which it is not certain that these three players will play for their respective teams in the IPL 2025 playoffs. The England players returned after the 18th season of the IPL was postponed for a week, but after the announcement of ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the schedule of the remaining matches of the IPL has now been released.

Butler, Bethell and Jacks’ teams are in the playoff race

According to the revised schedule, the remaining matches of IPL 2025 will be played from May 17 and its final will now be held on June 3. After the announcement of the new dates, there were problems for Butler, Bethell and Jacks as they also have to fulfill international commitments. Butler plays for Gujarat Titans, Bethell Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Jacks for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and all three teams are currently leading in the race to reach the IPL playoffs.

According to a report , Bethell is understood to be in India for RCB’s next two matches, but will return home before the team’s final group stage match in Lucknow. He will join the team in Birmingham ahead of the first ODI at Edgbaston. There is no information about Jacques and Buttler at the moment, but both of them will also come to participate in the IPL for some time.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had said before the mega auction in November that its centrally contracted players would be available for the entire season of the IPL, due to which Bethell was not included in the team for the Test series against Zimbabwe starting May 22. Although this commitment was valid as per the old schedule, but now the final is to be held on June 3 instead of May 25.

Overton’s return difficult

Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals) and Jamie Overton (Chennai Super Kings) have also got a place in the ODI team, but both their teams are out of the playoff race, so it is believed that Overton will not return to India. Bethell’s absence will be a blow to RCB, but its two other England players like Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt will be available for the remaining IPL matches as both of them have not got a place in the ODI team. Salt has been selected for the T20 series which is to start from June 6.
