NEW DELHI, APRIL 11 — The push to integrate teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the Indian senior men’s national team reached a new peak following his latest explosive performance in the IPL. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener has sparked a national conversation about whether he should become the youngest player to ever represent India.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal publicly advocated for the youngster’s promotion on social media, asserting that Sooryavanshi’s current form warrants an immediate call-up. “This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India as the youngest given his performances,” Dhumal stated, noting that the player’s talent and age make him a rare prospect for the national side. If selected for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, Sooryavanshi would surpass the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days.

The left-handed batter reinforced these claims on Friday by dismantling the Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowling attack, scoring 78 runs from only 26 deliveries. His innings included 15 boundaries and guided his team to a successful chase of a 202-run target. This performance follows a trend of dominance against elite international bowlers, including a notable six off the first ball he faced from Jasprit Bumrah in a previous fixture.

Sooryavanshi currently holds the Orange Cap, having amassed 200 runs in just four matches this season. His record includes two half-centuries, both achieved in 15 balls. Having turned 15 in March 2026, he is now officially eligible for senior selection, leaving the final decision to head coach Gautam Gambhir and the national selection committee.
