CHANDIGARH, APRIL 2: A 37-year-old woman received life-saving cardiac surgery costing ₹4 lakh at PGIMER Chandigarh without any out-of-pocket expenses, marking a significant milestone for the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna. State health officials stated on Thursday that the procedure for Sukhpal Kaur, who suffered from a critical aortic dissection, represents one of the largest successful claims processed under the Bhagwant Mann government’s healthcare initiative.
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh maintained that the successful intervention demonstrates the real-world impact of the Sehat Card system. He affirmed that the scheme is designed to provide immediate relief to families facing sudden, high-cost medical emergencies.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is making a real ground impact,” Dr. Balbir Singh asserted. He noted that the ability to provide treatment without the stress of fund arrangement remains a primary goal of the administration.
Medical professionals at PGIMER noted that aortic dissection requires rapid surgical response to prevent fatal outcomes. Dr. Sachin Mahajan stated that the verification of the patient’s Sehat Card allowed the surgical team to proceed immediately, bypassing the usual delays associated with financial clearances for expensive procedures.
The patient’s family affirmed that the swift transition to surgery would have been impossible if they had been required to secure the funds independently. The health department noted that the scheme offers coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family, and encouraged all eligible residents to enroll at designated centers to ensure access to these cashless benefits.
