CHANDIGARH, Jan 2 — A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Friday rejected the bail application of suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, arrested in connection with a bribery case.
Bhullar and his alleged aide Kirishanu Sharda were taken into CBI custody on October 16, 2025, after a trap operation following a complaint by Akash Batta of Mandi Gobindgarh. Batta alleged that Bhullar sought illegal gratification through a middleman to settle a 2023 FIR at Sirhind police station and prevent any coercive action against his scrap business.
Bhullar’s lawyer, SPS Bhullar, told the court, “The challan has already been filed, and the investigation is complete. There is no possibility of my client influencing witnesses.”
The public prosecutor, Narender Singh, opposed the bail, warning that release could allow the accused to tamper with evidence. “Granting bail at this stage would affect witness statements,” he said.
The court dismissed the plea. Bhullar, who had previously been denied default bail in a disproportionate assets case, is currently lodged at Burail Jail, Chandigarh. He had also approached the Supreme Court seeking interim bail and a stay on CBI proceedings, but the request was refused.
