CHANDIGARH, JUNE 2: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested senior Indian Revenue Service officer Amit Singal and his associate Harsh Kotak in a bribery case, seizing ₹1 crore in cash, 3.5 kg of gold, and 2 kg of silver during raids at their premises in Delhi and Punjab, officials said on Monday.

The arrests followed a trap operation after Sanam Kapoor, owner of La Pinoz Pizza, filed a complaint with the CBI alleging that Singal demanded a ₹45 lakh bribe to resolve an income-tax notice issued to him. The first instalment of ₹25 lakh was allegedly delivered to Singal’s residence in Mohali on Saturday, where Kotak received the cash on his behalf.

“Acting swiftly on the complaint, CBI teams carried out coordinated raids. Kotak was arrested from the Mohali residence during the handover of the bribe,” an agency official said. “Singal was arrested later the same day from his home in Delhi.”

Singal, a 2007-batch IRS officer, was posted as the Additional Director General at the Directorate of Taxpayer Services at the time of the arrest.

CBI officials confirmed that the raids led to significant recoveries, including unaccounted wealth in the form of cash, gold, and silver.

Both accused were presented before a special magistrate in Chandigarh and were remanded in judicial custody till June 13, Kapoor’s lawyer Gagandeep Jammu said.

Investigators are now examining whether the seized assets are linked to additional acts of corruption or undisclosed income. The probe continues.
