Chamba, 26 February — A wave of devotion swept through Chamba district as thousands gathered at Lord Shiva temples to mark Mahashivratri. Chants of “Har Har Mahadev” echoed through the temples, where devotees performed rituals and sought blessings.
At Chandershekhar Mahadev temple in Saho, about 15 km from Chamba, a massive crowd participated in special prayers and rituals. The temple, believed to be a thousand years old and home to Asia’s largest Shivlinga, remained a focal point of celebrations. Chamba MLA Neeraj Nayyar, attending as chief guest, announced a grant of ₹35 lakh for its renovation.
The temple’s Nandi bull, with a stone bell around its neck that produces a metallic sound, continues to intrigue visitors.
