CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Administration has extended the application window for issuing temporary licences to sell eco-friendly green crackers across the union territory ahead of the festive season. According to official directions released by the UT authorities, interested vendors and traders can submit their applications online through the official service portal starting September 7 at 9:00 AM until September 12 at 5:00 PM. The initiative ensures a structured and transparent digital allocation process for registered sellers across the city.

In accordance with environmental guidelines, the administration has restricted sales exclusively to green crackers certified by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI). Applicants are required to submit a non-refundable processing fee of ₹500 along with necessary site documentation through the portal. Officials affirmed that the public draw of lots to finalize successful license holders will take place at Bal Bhawan in Sector 23 at 4:00 PM on September 14.

State authorities maintained that strict enforcement will be carried out across designated market sites to prevent the distribution or sale of non-permitted conventional firecrackers. Administration representatives declared that terms, conditions, and operational guidelines have been uploaded to the service portal to assist applicants. The measure aims to balance traditional festive celebrations with ongoing environmental protection efforts to keep regional air quality levels under control.
