Chandigarh, August 25: A major infrastructure project aimed at decongesting the heavily choked approach road to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has cleared its first major bureaucratic hurdle. The appraisal committee of the Chandigarh administration has formally recommended a ₹89-crore elevated corridor as part of a larger ₹176-crore urban development package.
“The proposals, cleared under the chairmanship of the chief secretary, will now move forward for administrative approval and financial sanction,” officials confirmed following the panel review, noting that final approvals remain subject to specific technical observations made during the meeting.
The planned 1,280-metre-long, four-lane elevated corridor will connect Khudda Jassu and Khuda Lahora to provide uninterrupted, grade-separated vehicular movement. Constructed using reinforced cement concrete (RCC) and precast technology, the bridge will feature reinforced earth walls, modern drainage networks, crash barriers, and pedestrian-friendly pathways. City planners expect the structure to vastly improve travel times for emergency vehicles and commuters, while lowering vehicular emissions and fuel consumption along the busy stretch.
