New Delhi, July 17: Chandigarh has secured the second position in the Super Swachh League category for cities with a population between 3 and 10 lakh in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 rankings, announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony in New Delhi, where Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla received the honour on behalf of the city.

Calling it a proud moment, Mayor Babla said the recognition reflects Chandigarh’s sustained excellence in cleanliness and sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

“This is not just an award for the administration—it belongs to every citizen who has played a role in keeping our city clean,” she said. “Chandigarh continues to set benchmarks in urban sanitation and sustainability.”

The Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 introduced a smart and structured methodology to evaluate cleanliness, focusing on waste management and urban service delivery. This year’s theme, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” aimed to promote circular economy practices and long-term sustainability.

The assessment involved over 3,000 field assessors who carried out on-ground evaluations in every ward across the country over a span of 45 days.

This year’s awards were presented in four main categories, including the Super Swachh League Cities and the top three clean cities across five population segments.

With this latest recognition, Chandigarh has once again reaffirmed its status as one of India’s cleanest and most citizen-driven cities.
