Chandigarh, November 19, 2024: Former Punjab Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Charanjit Singh Channi issued an apology after receiving a notice from the Punjab State Women’s Commission for controversial comments deemed insulting to women.

The remarks, made during an event in Giddarbaha and captured in a viral video, involved a comparison between Jats and Brahmins, with Channi joking about a Jat having two wives.

The comments sparked outrage, leading Raj Lali Gill, former chairperson of the Punjab Women’s Commission, to take notice, citing violations of women’s dignity and safety.

In response to the backlash, Channi apologized, stating, “I only told a joke. If anyone’s feelings have been hurt, I sincerely apologize.”

The Women’s Commission had summoned Channi to appear at its office in SAS Nagar (Mohali) on November 19, 2024, to address the issue and explain his remarks.
