CHANDIGARH, MAY 7 — Punjab Finance Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday denounced recent explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar, characterizing them as a calculated effort to fracture the state’s communal harmony. Speaking at a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, the Minister stated that these incidents represent a deliberate attempt to spread terror and unrest among the public.

Minister Cheema asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party historically relies on religious and caste-based divisions rather than economic or developmental progress to secure electoral victories. He noted that a pattern of polarization often emerges in states approaching elections, suggesting that Punjab has become the latest target for such strategies. He maintained that the BJP seeks power by inciting tension and jeopardizing the safety of innocent citizens.

“The seeds of hatred have never succeeded in Punjab and never will,” the Minister affirmed. He stated that the people of Punjab have a long history of defeating divisive forces and remaining united during times of crisis. He noted that the state’s residents have made immense sacrifices for national security and would not allow the social fabric to be weakened by political agendas.

Drawing a distinction between political styles, Minister Cheema stated that the Bhagwant Mann administration is dedicated to tangible improvements in healthcare, education, and public infrastructure. He affirmed that while the AAP focuses on service delivery, the opposition is preoccupied with poaching legislators and spreading enmity. He declared that the Punjab government remains fully committed to taking strict action against any anti-social elements attempting to terrorize the state.
