Vice-captain of winning Under-19 cricket team receives grand reception on campus

Mohali, Feb 19: Chitkara University organized a massive homecoming celebration on Thursday to honor Vihaan Malhotra, the vice-captain of India’s World Cup-winning Under-19 cricket team. Malhotra, a first-year BBA student at the university, played a pivotal role in leading the national squad to a record sixth ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup title following a historic victory against England.

During a special ceremony held at the campus, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Madhu Chitkara presented the young cricketer with a cheque for ₹2 lakh in recognition of his international achievement. The Pro-Chancellor stated that Malhotra’s success serves as a primary example of character and discipline for the student body. She maintained that the vice-captain represents a fearless and focused “new India” that is prepared for future challenges.

Students and faculty gathered in large numbers to welcome the athlete, who balanced a rigorous international touring schedule with his academic commitments. Malhotra expressed his gratitude to the institution, noting that the support from his professors and mentors was essential to his journey. He affirmed that while managing both studies and elite sports is demanding, the university environment provided the necessary inspiration to pursue his passion.

University officials noted that Malhotra’s performance throughout the tournament was defined by his ability to remain calm under pressure. They stated that his leadership during crucial moments of the innings was instrumental in securing the trophy for the nation.
