Srinagar, November 3, 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday unanimously elected Sunil Sharma as the leader of its legislative party, paving the way for his appointment as Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly with Tarun Chugh, BJP’s National General Secretary, congratulating Sharma on his new role.
“Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Shri @Sunil_SharmaBJP ji, former Minister in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, State General Secretary of BJP, and popular MLA from Paddar-Nagseni Assembly, on being elected as the Leader of the BJP Legislative Party and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly,” Chugh wrote in a post on X.
“I have full faith that with dedication and vigor, you will become the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, from the streets to the Assembly,” Chugh added.
“You will strengthen good governance, security, and progress in the state by uniting all sections and fulfilling your responsibilities with commitment, contributing meaningfully to the vision of ‘Developed India – Developed Jammu and Kashmir.’”
Sharma, a former minister and MLA from the Padder-Nagseni constituency in Kishtwar, was unanimously elected as the BJP’s legislative party leader today.
With this decision, Sharma is set to be formally recognized as Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, where BJP holds the position as the largest opposition party. This marks the first time in J&K’s history that the Leader of Opposition will be from the BJP.
