BATHINDA, May 13 — Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan following India’s military strikes on terror infrastructure on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, police have arrested a civilian employee of the Bathinda military station on suspicion of espionage.

Senior Superintendent of Police Amneet Kondal confirmed on Tuesday that the man, who worked as a tailor inside the high-security defence facility, was taken into custody for questioning after being handed over by military authorities on Monday.

“A mobile phone has been recovered from him and sent for forensic analysis,” an official said, adding that further interrogation is underway to determine the extent of the suspect’s activities and possible links.

This is the second such arrest in less than two weeks at the same military base. On April 29, another civilian, Sunil Kumar, who worked as a cobbler at the installation, was similarly apprehended.

“In his case, we checked bank statements and property records, but no conclusive evidence was found. His phone was also sent for forensic analysis, and we are awaiting the results,” a police officer said.

Security agencies have intensified monitoring and verification of civilian staff employed at military bases across the border state as part of precautionary measures following the recent conflict escalation with Pakistan.
