KAPURTHALA, Sept. 10 — Tension flared in Hamira village of Bhulath subdivision late Tuesday night after two rival groups clashed, leaving one man injured in a firing incident and a vehicle torched, police said.

According to officials, unidentified men set fire to an Innova car parked outside the house of Jaswant Singh. When Singh rushed out after hearing the commotion, the attackers allegedly opened fire, striking him in the arm. He was initially taken to Kapurthala Civil Hospital but later shifted to a private hospital in Jalandhar due to the severity of his injuries.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhulath, Karnail Singh, confirmed the incident and said three empty cartridges were recovered from the spot. “The violence stemmed from an old rivalry between the two groups. Just a day earlier, both sides had clashed near the new court complex, where sharp-edged weapons were used,” he said.

Police have launched an investigation, recording statements of the injured and conducting raids to identify and arrest those involved. “The matter is under serious investigation. Strict action will follow,” DSP Singh added.

With tensions running high, heavy police force has been deployed in the village to prevent any further escalation.
