Ajnala, Jan 20: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday laid the foundation stone of a Government Degree College at Bikraur village in Ajnala, marking a significant step toward providing higher education in the border region.

The new institution, to be named after the scholar Baba Ghamchuk Ji, will be constructed across 15 acres of land at a cost of ₹15 crore.

The Chief Minister noted that the college is a crucial part of the state’s mission to rebuild Punjab through quality education and localized opportunities.

He mentioned that for decades, previous administrations led by the Congress, Akali Dal, and BJP had neglected such essential infrastructure, forcing the state’s youth to seek opportunities abroad.

“The opposition has no vision for Punjab,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the gathering.

He further added that traditional parties were only waiting for their turn to exploit state resources, but the brave people of Punjab would no longer allow such designs to succeed.

The upcoming co-educational facility is expected to benefit students from approximately 50 nearby villages, with a projected enrollment of over 2,000 students.

The curriculum will include modern subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Digital Skills, and Computer Science alongside traditional streams like Arts, Science, and Commerce.

Chief Minister Mann also announced that children from the village that donated land for the project would receive free education at the institution.

He urged parents to prioritize schooling to ensure their children are not compelled to migrate for a better future.

“Our focus is on the welfare of present and future generations so that Punjab moves on the path of progress and prosperity,” he said.
