Ludhiana, August 15: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann laid the foundation stone of a ₹65-crore Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant at Haibowal in Ludhiana to curb pollution in the Budha Nallah and address chronic sewer blockage. Scheduled to become operational by September 2027, the facility will process 300 tonnes of cattle dung generated daily at the local dairy complex under a ‘Waste-to-Wealth’ initiative.
The project, spread over 2.5 acres provided by the state government in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, will convert dairy waste into approximately five tonnes of compressed biogas and organic bio-fertilizer every day.
“Today is a historic day as the foundation stone of the Compressed Biogas Plant is being laid here,” Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared during the ceremony. He maintained that the initiative marks a milestone under the Budha Darya Rejuvenation Programme, adding, “Around 435 dairy owners in the area will directly benefit from this project, which is a major step towards the concept of ‘Waste-to-Wealth’. Scientific utilisation of cattle dung will create new sources of income for dairy farmers.”
Beyond waste treatment, the Chief Minister affirmed that the plant will generate direct and indirect employment while reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers through organic alternatives.
“Our government remains firmly committed to making Punjab greener and pollution-free,” Chief Minister Mann stated. He asserted that additional green energy facilities will be established across the state to preserve water bodies and protect environmental health.
The address also highlighted broader administrative achievements, noting that canal water usage for irrigation has risen from 22 percent to over 88 percent following the installation of 14,000 kilometers of pipeline infrastructure. Chief Minister Mann noted that public resources continue to be directed toward healthcare, free power, road construction, and social welfare programs like the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna.
