CM Slams BJP Over Vimal Negi Death Probe Demand

Shimla, April 7: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday accused the BJP of politicising the death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer at Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), calling the party’s demand for a CBI probe politically motivated.

“If the Enforcement Directorate can conduct raids in Nadaun, then who is stopping the CBI from carrying out an investigation?” Sukhu said, responding to the BJP’s repeated calls for central agency involvement in the case.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Phase-II of the historic Ellerslie Building in Shimla, the Chief Minister said the state government was handling the matter with “utmost sensitivity and seriousness.”
“Everyone wants to know the truth behind Vimal Negi’s death. His wife has met me, and we stand in solidarity with the bereaved family,” Sukhu added.

The second phase of the Ellerslie project is estimated at Rs 19.72 crore and is targeted for completion by April 2026. The upcoming six-storeyed building will include three levels for parking and two floors for Secretariat offices and amenities.

Once completed, the facility is expected to ease congestion at the existing Secretariat complex and improve public access. “The new structure will streamline movement, offer better amenities, and reduce traffic pressure along the circular road,” the Chief Minister said.
