SRINAGAR, DEC 18 — Sub-zero temperatures persisted across Kashmir on Wednesday night as a cold wave continued to grip Jammu and Kashmir, with Zojila Pass emerging as the coldest location at minus 17 degrees Celsius, weather data showed.
Across the Kashmir Valley, Awantipora recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 3.8°C, followed by Pulwama at minus 3.2°C, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather. Pampore and Baramulla both settled at minus 1.8°C, while Shopian recorded minus 1.5°C.
Srinagar city registered a low of 0.2°C, with the Srinagar airport touching the freezing point. Kupwara recorded minus 1.0°C, Anantnag minus 0.3°C, Budgam and Bandipora minus 0.8°C each, and Ganderbal minus 0.1°C.
Among tourist destinations, Pahalgam recorded 0.4°C and Gulmarg 1.6°C, while Sonamarg stood at 2.1°C. Kulgam saw a minimum of 2.0°C, Kokernag 1.8°C and Qazigund 0.8°C. The Zethan Rafiabad weather station was reported to be non-functional.
In the Jammu region, night temperatures remained relatively higher. Jammu city recorded 11.0°C, while the airport logged 11.5°C. Katra recorded 12.1°C, Banihal 5.7°C, Batote 9.5°C, Bhaderwah 5.0°C and Kathua 8.8°C.
Elsewhere in Jammu, Udhampur recorded 6.1°C, Ramban 8.3°C, Samba 7.1°C, Rajouri 3.0°C, Kishtwar 8.6°C, Reasi 9.7°C and Doda 8.8°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4°C. Data for Kargil and the Nubra Valley was not available.
