Chandigarh, July 2: The opposition Congress party faced a major structural defection in the Mukerian constituency after multiple senior local figures officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday. The mass induction took place in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who formally integrated the leaders and their sizable voter bases into the ruling party framework.
The shift alters the local political landscape ahead of upcoming rural administrative assessments, transferring established block-level networks directly to the ruling administration. Among the prominent figures switching their allegiance were local sarpanches Anil Thakur, Tajinder Pal Singh, and Lakhvir Singh, alongside key organizers Beant Singh Randhawa, Poonam Rattu, Rajesh Rattu, and Sher Singh Shera. The group also included former Akali Dal assembly candidate Sarbjot Singh Sabi, signaling a multi-party consolidation toward the government.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared that the influx of rural leadership validates the current administration’s governance model. “AAP’s people-centric governance, honest politics, and commitment to Punjab’s development are attracting leaders and workers from across the political spectrum,” the Chief Minister maintained.
The newly inducted leadership cadre stated that the decision to shift alignments was driven by the transparent nature of state operations over the past few years. They affirmed that the current administration remains the sole political entity delivering measurable progress to the rural belts of Punjab.
Chief Minister Mann asserted that the expansion points toward sustained public alignment with ongoing state projects. “The continuous expansion of the AAP family reflects the growing trust of the people in the party’s policies and the work being done by the Punjab government. Leaders who genuinely want to serve the people are voluntarily associating themselves with AAP,” he stated.
Party strategists expect the addition of these experienced village representatives to solidify the government’s organizational apparatus throughout Hoshiarpur district. The Chief Minister assured the new inductees that their grassroots experience would be met with appropriate organizational responsibilities and structural respect within the party cadres.
