NEW DELHI, OCT 7: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi along with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were taken into custody by the Delhi Police on Tuesday evening following a prolonged confrontation lasting over eight hours inside Akashvani Bhawan. The action brought an end to a dramatic standoff between INDIA bloc alliance leaders and law enforcement officials in the national capital.

Authorities confirmed that approximately 260 individuals were taken into custody, among whom were 10 Members of Parliament, as the alliance attempted to march towards the Election Commission of India headquarters at Nirvachan Sadan. Additional protesters gathered outside the broadcasting premises were also rounded up by police personnel to clear the location.

The situation unfolded when security forces blocked the path of more than 300 Opposition parliamentarians heading toward the election authority’s offices. As law enforcement began taking leaders into custody, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra redirected their route into the nearby Akashvani Bhawan premises, transforming the street demonstration into a impromptu sit-in inside the complex.

Accompanied by several party colleagues and workers, the leaders maintained their stance inside the building for hours. They asserted that authorities should either permit their delegation to continue toward the Election Commission or designate an alternative official site within the capital where the protest could proceed.
