CHANDIGARH, Dec. 10 — The Congress high command has asked AICC general secretary for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel to submit a detailed report on suspended leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s explosive allegation that ₹500 crore was demanded for the chief minister’s post. The party leadership is also assessing the fallout of her suspension as internal rifts deepen ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
According to senior party sources, the leadership is alarmed by Navjot Kaur’s corruption accusations against Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Randhawa. AICC has asked Warring to act “firmly” against indiscipline to prevent infighting from damaging the party’s electoral prospects.
The party is also probing claims that Tarn Taran bypoll candidate Karanbir Burj allegedly paid money for his ticket. Burj has denied the charge, but sources said the high command is attempting to verify the allegation “through independent channels.”
A senior leader said the episode reflects deeper internal rivalries. “There is more than what meets the eye. Navjot has targeted one group of leaders who hold power in the state unit at a time when factions are lobbying for a change of guard in the PPCC,” he said.
Navjot has maintained that she is in contact with senior leaders as the matter escalates within the party.
