CHANDIGARH, JAN 3 — Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal on Friday said the image of the police department suffers due to the actions of a small number of corrupt officers and employees, asserting that such conduct will not be tolerated.
Speaking during his first statewide review meeting held via video conference, Singhal told senior officers that honesty and integrity must define policing in Haryana. “The Haryana Police is my family, and every officer and employee associated with it is important to me,” he said, while warning that a zero-tolerance approach would be adopted against corruption.
The meeting, which lasted more than three hours, was attended by around 700 officers and personnel, including police commissioners, range inspectors general, district superintendents of police, STF officials and other senior staff.
Singhal urged officers not to give in to temptations and reminded them of their responsibility toward the public. “We are all fortunate to have an opportunity to serve the people. This spirit of service should be our greatest identity,” he said.
During the review, the DGP assessed the law and order situation across districts and sought detailed feedback on local challenges. He directed officers to prepare concrete, practical and time-bound action plans to deal with crime and security issues in their respective areas.
Each district has been asked to submit its plan within two days, covering crime control, traffic management, narcotics, cybercrime, extortion, security arrangements and other sensitive matters. “Every district has different problems, and solutions should be framed accordingly,” Singhal said.
Referring to expectations of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the DGP said the state leadership expects result-oriented policing. “The Chief Minister has given full support and a free hand to the police to take strict action against crime so officers can work fearlessly within the law,” he said.
