Ferozpur, March 14: A Ferozepur court on Friday granted the Punjab Police a four-day remand of gangster Ashish Chopra in connection with a triple-murder that took place last September. Chief Judicial Magistrate Anoop Singh ordered the suspect to remain in police custody until March 17 to facilitate further investigation into the crime.
Chopra was brought to Ferozepur under high-security cover late Thursday night following his arrest at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The operation was carried out by the Punjab Police with the assistance of central agencies. On Friday, he was produced before the court where investigators sought his custody to uncover more details regarding the conspiracy.
The case stems from a violent incident on September 2, 2023, during which six motorcycle-borne assailants reportedly discharged approximately 50 rounds of ammunition at a group of individuals. The attack resulted in the deaths of 26-year-old Jaspreet Kaur, her brother Akasdeep Singh, 21, and their cousin Dildeep Singh, 32. Two other relatives sustained injuries during the shooting.
“The accused was produced before the court under heavy security and has been remanded to four-day custody for questioning,” an official source stated.
The police have identified eight individuals as suspects in the case, including Ravinder alias Ravi, Rajvir Singh alias Daler Singh, and Ashish Chopra. Authorities maintained that the interrogation of Chopra is expected to provide critical leads regarding the remaining suspects and the motive behind the fatal ambush.
