ZIRAKPUR, August 5 — A series of crimes rocked Zirakpur on Monday afternoon, including a snatching incident, vehicle theft, and an alleged attempt to murder a police officer, prompting heightened concern among residents and a swift police response.
In the first incident, Parveen Bansal, a senior advocate and resident of Orbit Apartments on VIP Road, was targeted near Metro Point while purchasing fruits. “Two men in a car and two on a bike approached me just after I paid through UPI. They forcibly removed my gold finger ring and fled as I raised an alarm,” Bansal said.
Police have registered a daily diary report (DDR). SHO Satinder Singh and SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans confirmed that CCTV footage is being reviewed and a probe is underway to identify the accused.
In Lohgarh, a busy commercial area, miscreants stole a motorcycle parked outside the Star Business Centre. The victim, Ajay, said he parked his vehicle in the morning but discovered it missing by afternoon.
In a separate and more serious incident, police booked three unidentified persons for allegedly trying to run over a cop in Phase 10 late Sunday night. According to officials, one suspect has been arrested while the remaining three fled the scene, hitting a police officer in their attempt to escape.
A case under attempt to murder charges has been registered, and the vehicle used by the accused has been impounded.
Police said further investigations are ongoing in all three cases.
