AMRITSAR, June 13: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Border Range, Amritsar, arrested two men and seized 4.5 kg of heroin along with ₹11 lakh in drug money.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the breakthrough on Thursday, identifying the accused as Gurbhej Singh, alias Bheja, and Abhijeet Singh, alias Happy. “In a breakthrough, the ANTF, Border Range, Amritsar, busts a cross-border narco-smuggling racket… and recovers 4.5 kg heroin and ₹11 lakh in drug money,” the DGP posted on X.
According to initial investigations, Gurbhej Singh had direct ties with a Pakistan-based smuggler known as Rana and was actively coordinating heroin consignments across the border. “Both accused were apprehended while attempting to sell the heroin,” said Yadav.
An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the ANTF Police Station in SAS Nagar. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network, officials said.
The operation marks another success for Punjab Police’s intensified campaign against narcotics and organized crime along the India-Pakistan border. On the same day, Amritsar Rural Police also dismantled an illegal arms smuggling ring, arresting four people and recovering nine weapons.
