New Delhi, October 28: The landfall process of severe cyclonic storm Montha has begun off the Andhra Pradesh coast and is expected to continue for the next three to four hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday evening.

In a post on X around 7:23 pm, the IMD said its latest observations confirmed the commencement of Montha’s landfall. The system is likely to cross the Andhra coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to coastal districts.

The cyclonic storm is expected to maintain wind speeds of 90 to 100 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 110 kmph, the IMD added.

According to meteorologists, “Montha” — which means a fragrant flower in Thai — will continue to move inland after landfall, gradually weakening into a cyclonic storm over the next few hours. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain indoors and follow local safety advisories.
