Chandigarh, March 20 — Farm union leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite fast since November 26 last year, was moved to the PWD rest house in Jalandhar cantonment on Thursday morning, a day after his detention.

Dallewal was detained alongside Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarvan Singh Pandher on Wednesday evening following their meeting with Union ministers in Chandigarh.

He was brought to the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Jalandhar at 1:35 am in an ambulance under tight security.

A team of doctors conducted a medical examination before he was shifted to the rest house.

“Dallewal is under the observation of PIMS doctors,” said Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal.

Security around the rest house has been intensified, with police personnel assisted by Indian

Army jawans deployed to maintain law and order. Authorities have restricted movement in the area, barring visitors from meeting Dallewal.

Meanwhile, police have started clearing the year-long blockades set up by farmers on national highways at the inter-state borders of Shambhu and Khanauri, following the detention of the farm leaders.
