FATEHGARH SAHIB, April 6: — Jagjit Singh Dallewal, state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur), accused the central government of duplicity during the Kisan Mahapanchayat held in Fatehgarh Sahib on Sunday.
Addressing a large gathering, Dallewal alleged that while the government continues to invite farmer leaders for dialogue, it simultaneously unleashes force during night hours on protest sites at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
“The Centre’s actions speak louder than its invitations. On one hand, they call us for meetings. On the other, they attack our fronts under the cover of darkness,” he said.
Dallewal rejected the appeal made by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had urged him to end his hunger strike by assuring that farmer concerns would be addressed during a meeting scheduled for May 4.
“The promises made in past meetings were never honoured. How can we trust another one now?” Dallewal questioned.
Earlier in the day, the farmer leader visited Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and raised the issue of the Makhija Morcha. He demanded stern punishment for those accused of desecrating Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and halting an Akhand Path.
He said he has formally appealed to Sri Akal Takht Sahib for intervention and justice.
Dallewal reaffirmed that the farmer agitation would continue until all their demands are fulfilled. “The movement is not backing down. Mahapanchayats will keep happening until justice is done,” he declared.
