New Delhi, Nov 12 — The death toll in Monday’s explosion near Red Fort climbed to 12 on Tuesday as Delhi Police intensified searches across the city and filed a terror case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A high-intensity blast tore through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station, killing at least nine people on the spot and leaving several others critically injured. Three more succumbed to their injuries overnight, officials confirmed.
Delhi Police said an FIR has been registered at Kotwali police station under Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, which pertain to punishment and conspiracy for a terror act, along with provisions of the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“The case is being investigated from all possible angles. Raids are underway at multiple locations,” a senior police officer said.
Security has been tightened across the national capital, with heightened checks at the airport, railway stations, and major bus terminals. The explosion also gutted several vehicles and sent panic through the heavily guarded area near the historic monument.
