Deed Writer Held Taking Bribe for Tehsildar

Chandigarh, January 7, 2025 – Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Raj Kumar alias Ginni, a deed writer, red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹11,000 allegedly for a Tehsildar.

A deed writer is a professional responsible for drafting legal documents related to property transactions, such as sale deeds, gift deeds, lease agreements, and other similar documents required during property registration. They typically assist individuals in preparing documents for submission to the local revenue or registration office, ensuring compliance with legal and procedural requirements.

In a statement, a VB spokesperson revealed that Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Sarabha Nagar, Malout, lodged the complaint. Singh alleged that after purchasing land in Husnar village for his wife, the accused demanded ₹11,000, citing it as a bribe for the Tehsildar to complete the registration process.

Singh provided the VB with a recorded phone conversation as evidence, reads the statement.

Following a preliminary inquiry, a VB team from the Sri Muktsar Sahib unit laid a trap, apprehending Raj Kumar while accepting the bribe in the presence of official witnesses. Land registry documents were recovered from his office drawer.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been filed at the VB Range Bathinda police station.

The accused is set to appear in court tomorrow, with further investigations ongoing, it added.
