Defamation Case Against Rahul Gandhi Adjourned

New Delhi/Chandigarh, 5 December 24: The special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, postponed the hearing of a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday due to his lawyer’s illness, officials said. The next hearing is scheduled for December 16.

The case, filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018, concerns remarks allegedly made by Gandhi about Home Minister Amit Shah during the Karnataka assembly elections.

On Wednesday, Mishra’s lawyer, Santosh Pandey, stated that his client was prepared for cross-examination, but Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, submitted a letter citing illness, leading to the adjournment.

The previous hearing, set for November 23, was also delayed due to a legal workshop in the civil court. Gandhi, who was granted bail earlier this year on a personal bond of ₹25,000 during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, will now face the next court date in mid-December.
