Delhi Polls: Highest Turnout in Northeast District

New Delhi, 5 February 2025: Polling across Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies continued until 6 PM, with voter turnout reaching 57.7% by 5 PM, according to Election Commission data.

Voting began at 7 AM across 13,766 polling stations, where 1.56 crore eligible voters are deciding the fate of 699 candidates.

Northeast Delhi recorded the highest turnout at 63.83%, while the New Delhi district saw the lowest at 54.37%. Among constituencies, Mustafabad led with 66.68%, whereas Karol Bagh had the lowest at 47.40%. Shahdara recorded 61.35%, Southwest Delhi 58.86%, Northwest Delhi 58.05%, North Delhi 57.24%, Central Delhi 55.24%, and Southeast Delhi 53.77%.

In comparison, the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections saw 62.59% turnout, while the 2024 Lok Sabha polls had 56%.

Several prominent figures cast their votes early, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Union ministers S. Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Polling day was marked by tension in Seelampur after a BJP leader alleged that some individuals in burqas were attempting to vote fraudulently. Delhi Police dismissed the claim, stating no fake voting had occurred. In Kasturba Nagar, police detained two men for allegedly trying to cast fraudulent votes. AAP workers protested in response to the BJP’s allegations in Seelampur, while authorities deployed additional police and paramilitary personnel.
