NEW DELHI, OCT 6: Central Delhi transformed into a heavily fortified zone on Tuesday as security forces established barricades and enhanced monitoring across key public intersections. The scaled-up security presence follows a planned demonstration by parliamentarians belonging to the INDIA opposition alliance, who intend to march to the Election Commission of India headquarters.
A substantial contingent of Rapid Action Force personnel, alongside local law enforcement officers, took up strategic positions surrounding the Patel Chowk Metro station, Akashvani Bhawan, and Vijay Chowk. Security personnel maintained continuous vigilance throughout the morning hours to manage public movement, prevent traffic disruption, and ensure civic order as lawmakers prepared to begin their walk from Makar Dwar.
The security operations, which commenced on Monday evening, extend to adjacent areas including Jantar Mantar, where authorities enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to restrict mass assemblies. Officers on the ground affirmed that full precautions were enacted to maintain peace during the planned procession.
“Strict security measures and barricades have been placed at strategic points to regulate movement and handle any potential situation during the protest,” declared a senior police official overseeening the arrangements in central Delhi.
The organized mobilization stems from concerns raised by opposition leaders regarding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the dynamic implementation of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. Members of parliament asserted that the march aims to formalize their representation before the commission.
