New Delhi, March 1 – The Delhi government will ban fuel supply to vehicles older than 15 years at petrol pumps across the city starting April 1, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced Saturday.
“We are installing devices at fuel stations to detect such vehicles, and no petrol or diesel will be provided to them,” Sirsa said after a high-level meeting on air pollution control.
The meeting focused on enforcing stricter policies to curb vehicular emissions, including restricting older vehicles, implementing mandatory anti-smog measures, and accelerating the transition to electric public transport.
Sirsa said the government would formally notify the Union Ministry of Petroleum about the fuel restriction.
He also announced that all high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial complexes in Delhi must install anti-smog guns to help control pollution levels.
In a major shift towards cleaner mobility, nearly 90% of Delhi’s public CNG buses will be phased out by December 2025 and replaced with electric buses, he added.
These measures are part of Delhi’s broader strategy to tackle its persistent air pollution crisis, which remains a significant concern for residents.
