New Delhi, 5 February 2025: Voting is underway for the Delhi Assembly election, with around 20% of voters casting their ballots by 11 AM on Wednesday across 70 constituencies. The election, which could reshape the political landscape of the national capital, will decide the fate of 699 candidates. Polling is being conducted at 13,766 stations.
Clash at Seelampur Over Alleged Fake Voting
A confrontation broke out between AAP and BJP workers at a polling booth in Seelampur over allegations of fake votes by burqa-clad women. Police intervened and dispersed the crowd.
BJP Accuses AAP of Fake Voting
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP of using fake voters. “According to my information, Delhi Police have caught some fake voters. I appeal to people to be cautious of AAP’s tactics,” he said.
AAP Alleges BJP Bribing Voters
AAP accused BJP of escorting voters to a building near a Jangpura polling booth and distributing money. The party released a video showing workers protesting and raising slogans. In response, the District Election Officer (South-East) directed Delhi Police and Flying Squad teams to investigate and take action.
AAP Worker Detained
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that one of their party workers was detained by Delhi Police. DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla said the worker was held for allegedly forcing people to visit a particular party’s stall.
President Murmu Casts Her Vote
President Droupadi Murmu cast her vote at a polling booth in the President’s Estate around 9 AM.
