Faridabad, April 8: A 21-year-old resident of Delhi drowned Tuesday afternoon while swimming with companions in an artificial lake located in the Sirohi area of Faridabad. The deceased, identified by authorities as Abhishek, was a resident of Basant village who worked for a private firm. Police officials confirmed that the body was recovered late Tuesday evening following an extensive search operation involving local residents.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. after Abhishek arrived at the site on a motorcycle with four friends to bathe in the water. Witnesses reported that the young man moved into a deeper section of the lake and began to struggle. Although his companions raised an alarm, he submerged before they could reach him. Emergency responders transported the victim to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital, where medical staff declared him dead on arrival.
“The police team reached the spot immediately after receiving information and initiated rescue efforts with help from the community,” a police officer stated. “The body has been placed in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination, and the family members have been notified of the tragedy.”
Local authorities noted that bathing in the artificial lakes across Faridabad remains strictly prohibited due to treacherous underwater conditions. While the scenic areas attract many visitors, officials maintained that swimming poses a significant risk to life. This drowning adds to a series of similar fatalities in the region, including several incidents at Sirohi Lake involving visitors from Delhi over the past few years.
