Dense fog disrupts flights across north India

NEW DELHI, Dec 29 — Dense fog blanketed large parts of north India on Monday morning, disrupting flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and slowing movement across the region.

Several flights were delayed and some cancelled as visibility dropped to low levels in Delhi and adjoining areas. Airlines including IndiGo and Air India issued travel advisories, asking passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.

“Low visibility conditions due to dense fog may impact flight schedules in Delhi,” IndiGo said in a statement, advising travelers to allow extra time for airport formalities.

Air India also warned of possible disruptions, saying fog-related delays were beyond the airline’s control and urging passengers to remain patient.

The India Meteorological Department said dense fog was reported in many parts of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana during the early morning hours, accompanied by cold conditions. Road traffic in several areas moved slowly as drivers navigated poor visibility.

Weather officials said fog conditions are likely to persist during morning hours over the next few days due to prevailing cold and calm wind patterns.
