CHANDIGARH, JAN 12 – Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav on Monday broke his silence on the controversy surrounding a viral video of former Delhi CM Atishi, asserting that the Jalandhar police followed “due process of law” while registering an FIR.
Speaking at a press conference, the DGP dismissed allegations of procedural lapses, marking the first official reaction from the state police leadership on the matter.
The statement comes after the Delhi Assembly issued privilege notices to Yadav and other senior officials, questioning the registration of an FIR over a video that is part of House proceedings.
“Due process of law was followed in registering the FIR by Jalandhar police,” the DGP stated, though he declined to comment further on the specific privilege notice issued by the Delhi Assembly.
The press briefing was primarily called to announce a major breakthrough in the murder of AAP-affiliated Valtoha sarpanch Jarmal Singh. Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the January 4 killing, which occurred during a wedding ceremony in Amritsar.
Sharing details of the coordinated operation, DGP Yadav said, “Two shooters were arrested from Raipur in Chhattisgarh with the assistance of local police, while five other accused were apprehended from Mohali and Tarn Taran.”
He added that the conspiracy was masterminded by foreign-based individuals who provided funding and logistics. The investigation is now focused on tracing the complete money trail and weapon supply chain used by the organized crime network.
