PATIALA, June 4 – Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday warned that strict action would be taken against police officers found guilty of overstepping their authority, asserting that allegations of custodial deaths or excesses will be fairly investigated.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) building at the Patiala Range office, Yadav said, “If someone (a police officer) transgresses or commits wrongdoing, we will take action as per law.”

His remarks came in response to questions about the suspicious custodial death of a Bathinda man, Narinderdeep Singh, on May 23, and a recent incident involving the alleged assault of an army colonel and his son in Patiala.

Yadav underlined the importance of public support, saying, “When Punjab Police is doing a good job, then everyone should support them.”

The newly inaugurated two-storey ANTF facility, constructed at a cost of ₹1 crore, is designed to bolster Punjab’s anti-drug operations. It is outfitted with advanced forensic tools, data analysis systems, decryption capabilities, and cryptocurrency tracking equipment to enhance investigative capabilities.
