New Delhi, March 9 — Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday urged Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to take action against party members allegedly aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Singh’s remarks followed Gandhi’s statement on Congress’s organizational weakness in Gujarat, where it has been out of power for nearly three decades. “When will Rahul Gandhi expel BJP supporters from Congress?” Singh posted on X.
Addressing party workers in Ahmedabad on Saturday, Gandhi categorized Gujarat Congress members into two groups—those who genuinely serve the people and uphold the party’s ideology, and those disconnected from the public, with many having ties to the BJP. “The first task is to filter these two groups, even if it means removing people,” he said.
Recalling his tenure as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Singh claimed he was once advised against criticizing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during a Gujarat campaign. “I was instructed not to speak against @RSSorg as it might upset Hindus,” he said. He also accused the BJP and RSS of exploiting religious sentiments for political gain.
