NEW YORK, May 6— After electrifying crowds at Coachella and making waves at Paris Fashion Week, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh turned heads with his first-ever appearance at the Met Gala, joining fellow Indian celebrities Shah Rukh Khan and Kiara Advani at fashion’s most prestigious event.
Dressed by designer Prabal Gurung, Dosanjh embodied regal elegance in a striking all-white ensemble that included a turban, ornate jewellery, and a long cape embroidered with Punjabi script. Completing the look, he carried a sword—an accessory evoking the traditional image of a Sikh Maharaja.
“My culture is everything to me,” Dosanjh said in a brief comment to reporters. “Wearing something that connects me to my roots, especially on a global platform like this, means a lot.”
The 2025 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, centered around the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. It draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. This year’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” pays tribute to bespoke menswear and tailoring traditions—making it the first Met Gala in over 20 years to spotlight menswear exclusively.
“The theme this year is not only timely,” said committee member and singer Usher, “but also speaks to our rich culture that should always be widely celebrated.”
The exhibition, according to the Met, “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to today, through the lens of dandyism.”
Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Anna Wintour co-chaired the event, with NBA icon LeBron James serving as honorary co-chair.
Dosanjh’s Met Gala appearance follows the success of his Dil-luminati Tour, which drew massive crowds across North America and India. Up next, the global artist is set to release his latest single Buck—a collaboration with K-pop sensation Jackson Wang—on May 9.
